Chemical & Drum Load Protection

Drums and carboys are round, heavy and awkward to unitise. What holds them together on a pallet is strapping - and strapping needs something to bear against.

Updated

01The problem, specifically

Where the damage actually happens

A palletised drum load has no flat vertical edge for a strap to follow. The strap either cuts into the drum rim or slides down it, and either way the unit load loosens in transit. Once it loosens, the drums move, and moving drums on a pallet is how spills start.

Challenge 01

Round loads do not hold a strap

Without an edge to bear against, strap tension is lost as soon as the load settles.

Challenge 02

Weight per pallet is high

Drum pallets are among the heaviest unit loads that move on ordinary transport, so the pallet itself has to be rated properly.

Challenge 03

Contamination risk is two-way

Packaging that sheds, splinters or carries treatment residue is a problem both for the chemical and for the handler.

Challenge 04

Regulatory attention on the outer pack

Hazard classification, labelling and unit-load integrity get inspected, unlike on most other freight.

03Compliance

What applies here, and what does not

Hazard classification, UN marking and dangerous-goods documentation are your consignment's responsibility and are outside what we supply. What we can state is the material, dimension and HSN of the protective packaging itself.

The specification comes out of the load: what is on the pallet, how high it stacks, how hard it is strapped and where it goes. Give us those and the quote comes back with a spec on it.
